"The Mendicants"

Epic #60, Mid-December 1989 ($1.00)
Poem:
"In the tale we are telling-
There are folks who have no dwelling-
It's a story most compelling-
Just for you.
When the homeless venture near them-
People do not see or hear them-
Or they often tend to fear them-
Much like Groo.
It is not because of danger-
That they fear the homeless stranger-
Offering no bed or manger-
or assist.
It's because their very presence-
Tends to shatter all the pleasence-
By reminding all the peasants-
They exist.
Of the few who don't evade them-
Some will do their best to aid them-
One or two have even paid them-
To retreat.
Those with homes who aren't befriending-
Are too occupied pretending-
That their lives could not be ending-
In the street."

Moral:
"Solve a problem before you become part of it."
